What it is

What is data management?

Data management is how an organisation collects, stores, cleans, classifies, protects, shares and eventually deletes its data, so that people can trust what they see and the business stays inside the law. It covers the rules (governance), the quality of the data, the systems that hold it and the controls that keep it secure.

In Saudi Arabia it also has a legal dimension. The Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), supervised by SDAIA, sets duties for how personal data is collected, used, stored, transferred and deleted. The National Data Management Office (NDMO) publishes data management standards for government and regulated entities, and the NCA's controls set requirements for protecting data. Good data management is how you evidence compliance with all three.

We work on the practical layer: finding where data lives, fixing what is wrong with it, putting owners and rules around it, moving it safely between systems, and keeping it for exactly as long as it should be kept. That work sits underneath ERP, analytics, AI and cyber security projects and often decides whether they succeed.

What we do

From knowing what you hold to proving you control it

Seven workstreams you can take one at a time or as a programme.

Know what you hold and where it lives

You cannot protect, govern or delete data you cannot find. We map it across ERP, databases, file shares, email and cloud, and classify it by sensitivity.

  • Data inventory across ERP, databases, file shares, email and cloud
  • Classification into public, internal, confidential and restricted tiers
  • Personal-data mapping for PDPL: what, why, where and who can access it
  • Data flow maps including transfers outside the Kingdom
  • Risk-rated findings and a remediation plan
  • A data catalogue so people can find trusted data

What you get: A living inventory and a classification scheme that people actually use.

How we work

From first inventory to data you can rely on

We start by finding out what is true, then fix the biggest problems first, and put the controls in place so they stay fixed.

  1. Discover

Interviews and scans to find systems, data sets, owners and flows, including the spreadsheets nobody mentioned.

  2. Assess

Quality, risk and compliance gaps measured against PDPL, NDMO and your own policies, ranked by business impact.

  3. Design

Governance model, classification scheme, target architecture and rules, agreed with the data owners.

  4. Fix

Cleansing, de-duplication, migration, archiving and deletion, with reconciliation at each step.

  5. Embed

Controls built into systems and processes, owners trained and dashboards switched on.

  6. Sustain

Monitoring, quarterly reviews and a request process for data subjects and data owners.

How we classify data and what PDPL asks of you

Two tables we use in almost every first workshop: a working classification scheme, and the duties that matter most under the PDPL.

Example data classification scheme

LevelWhat it coversTypical controls
PublicMarketing material and published reportsIntegrity checks only
InternalPolicies, internal memos and non-sensitive operational dataStaff-only access
ConfidentialCustomer, financial and HR data, including personal dataRole-based access, encryption, logging
RestrictedStrategic, legal and highly sensitive personal dataNeed-to-know access, multi-factor authentication, data loss prevention, in-Kingdom storage

NDMO and the CST define their own classification levels for government data and cloud services. We map your scheme to them when your sector requires it.

Built for Saudi Arabia and the GCC

Data management that fits the Saudi rulebook

The Kingdom has one of the region's most active data regulatory environments. We translate it into tasks, owners and evidence.

  • PDPL and SDAIA

We map your personal-data processing, lawful bases, rights processes and security measures to the duties in the PDPL and its implementing regulations.

  • NDMO standards

Governance, catalogue, quality, classification and sharing practices aligned to the NDMO data management standards for government and regulated bodies.

  • Data residency

We help you decide which data can sit in the cloud, which must stay in the Kingdom and how transfers are justified and recorded.

  • NCA data protection

Classification, access control, encryption and logging mapped to the NCA controls for protecting data and information.

  • Arabic and bilingual data

Matching of Arabic and English names, Hijri and Gregorian dates, national ID and Iqama formats, and VAT and commercial registration numbers.

  • Local team

Riyadh-based consultants and engineers who work in Arabic and English with data owners and regulators' expectations in mind.

Why GoAgile

Why organisations choose GoAgile for data

Data programmes fail when they are all policy or all technology. We do both, and we do them in the systems you already run.

From policy to the database

We write the rules and also configure the systems, so governance is enforced where the data lives.

Practical, not theoretical

Short, plain-language policies and a delivery plan that fits your team's capacity.

ERP and migration depth

Experience with Dynamics 365, Oracle, SAP and Odoo data means fewer surprises in migrations.

Privacy and security together

Classification, retention and access control are designed with our security practices, not separately from them.

Evidence you can show

Inventories, registers and reports you can put in front of an auditor or regulator.

Local and bilingual

A Riyadh-based team that understands Saudi data formats, regulation and working practice.

Not sure what data you hold, or whether you can trust it?

Start with a short data discovery. We will show you what you have, how it scores on quality and compliance, and the three fixes that will matter most.

Questions answered

Data Management FAQs

What is data management?

Data management is the set of practices for collecting, storing, cleaning, classifying, protecting, sharing and eventually deleting data. It combines governance (who owns and decides), quality (accuracy and consistency), architecture (where data lives) and security and privacy controls.

What is the difference between data management and data governance?

Data governance is the part that sets ownership, policies and decision rights. Data management is the wider discipline that also includes the technical work: quality, integration, storage, security, retention and architecture. Governance tells you what should happen, management makes it happen.

What is the PDPL and does it apply to my company?

The Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) is Saudi Arabia's data protection law, supervised by SDAIA. It applies to organisations that process personal data of individuals in the Kingdom, including some organisations based abroad. It covers lawful processing, individual rights, security, retention, cross-border transfers and breach notification. Your legal counsel should confirm how it applies to you.

What is data classification and why do Saudi organisations need it?

Data classification labels data by sensitivity, for example public, internal, confidential and restricted, so each level gets the right controls. In Saudi Arabia it supports PDPL, NDMO and NCA requirements and decides what can be stored in the cloud or outside the Kingdom.

What is master data management?

Master data management creates and maintains one trusted record for the core entities of the business, such as customers, suppliers, products and the chart of accounts, and keeps it consistent across ERP, CRM and other systems.

How do you clean duplicate customer and supplier records?

We profile the data to find likely duplicates, including Arabic and English spelling variants, then match and merge them using agreed rules with an audit trail. We then add validation at the point of entry so duplicates do not return.

How long should we keep data?

It depends on the data type and the regulations that apply. Financial, tax, employment and sector records each have minimum periods, while personal data should not be kept longer than needed for its purpose. We build a retention schedule with your legal and finance teams and enforce it in systems.

Can data be stored outside Saudi Arabia?

It depends on the type of data, the sector and the conditions in the PDPL and sector rules for transfers abroad, and for cloud services the CST framework. We map your data, classify it and recommend where each category may sit, and we record the justification.

Do you handle data migration for ERP projects?

Yes. We map, transform, load and reconcile data for migrations to Dynamics 365, Oracle, SAP, Odoo and other platforms, with trial runs and finance sign-off before cut-over.

Do you provide database administration?

Yes. We administer SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL environments as a managed service or alongside your team, covering performance, patching, backup, security and licensing.
