What it is

What is data centre design and implementation?

Data centre design and implementation is the planning and building of the physical home for your IT: the room or building, electrical supply and backup power, cooling, racks, cabling, fire protection, physical security and monitoring, all sized for the availability you need and the growth you expect. Done well, the facility keeps running through power cuts, cooling faults and hardware failures, and grows without a rebuild.

The most expensive mistakes happen before anything is bought: a location with weak power, cooling sized for today's load only, or a build to a tier the business does not need. We start with the question that drives every other decision, how much downtime the business can tolerate, and design the electrical and cooling architecture to match.

We deliver three kinds of project: new on-premises server rooms, full data centre builds, and refurbishment or migration of an ageing facility while it stays live. The team that designs the facility also installs the cabling, commissions the systems and can run it afterwards, which is why SaudiBio handed us its on-premises infrastructure, from data centre design and implementation through to backup, disaster recovery and platform operations.

What we design and build

Every system the room depends on, delivered together

Seven workstreams, one programme, one point of accountability.

Design that starts with downtime tolerance

We establish what an hour of downtime costs, set the availability target, survey the site and design the facility to hit that target without over-building. The design is costed before you commit.

  • Business impact analysis to set the availability target
  • Site and risk survey: power, cooling, structure, flood and access
  • Capacity plan for five to ten years of load growth
  • Single-line power diagrams and cooling design
  • Rack layout and cable pathway plan
  • Capital and running-cost model with the trade-offs written down

What you get: A design you can approve, budget and tender with confidence.

How we work

From requirement to a room you can switch on

A data centre is built once and judged for a decade. The early steps decide most of the outcome.

Start with a conversation
  1. Brief and impact analysis

We agree the workloads, the cost of downtime, the availability target, the growth plan and the budget envelope.

  2. Survey

A site survey covers structure, power supply, cooling options, access and risk, and compares candidate locations if you have more than one.

  3. Design

Concept and detailed design: power and cooling architecture, rack plan, drawings, specifications and bill of quantities.

  4. Approvals

We prepare drawings and coordinate landlord, utility and Civil Defense approvals with you.

  5. Build

Supply and installation of containment, power, cooling, cabling, fire protection and security, in the right order.

  6. Test and commission

Component tests, integrated systems tests, failover tests and load-bank tests, witnessed by your team.

  7. Handover

As-built drawings, operations manuals, training and the first maintenance cycle.

How availability tiers translate into design

The Uptime Institute tier classification is the common language for data centre resilience. This is what each tier means in practice.

Tier classification at a glance

TierDesign conceptCommonly cited availabilityDowntime per yearTypical fit
Tier IBasic capacity, single path, no redundancy99.671%About 28.8 hoursSmall offices and non-critical systems that tolerate planned downtime
Tier IIRedundant capacity components (N+1), single path99.741%About 22 hoursGrowing businesses, development and test environments
Tier IIIConcurrently maintainable: multiple paths, maintenance without shutdown99.982%About 1.6 hoursBanks, hospitals, government and any 24/7 business
Tier IVFault tolerant: independent, simultaneously active paths99.995%About 26 minutesMission-critical national and financial infrastructure

Figures are those commonly cited for the Uptime Institute tier classification and describe design intent. Actual availability depends on operations. GoAgile designs to these concepts; formal tier certification is a separate assessment by the Uptime Institute.

Built for Saudi Arabia and the GCC

A data centre built for Saudi conditions and Saudi rules

Heat, dust, regulation and utility approvals shape every design decision in the Kingdom. We plan for them from the first drawing.

  • Heat and dust

Cooling is sized for Saudi summer ambient temperatures, with filtration and positive-pressure design where dust is a risk.

  • Data residency and classification

Where the facility sits and what it holds is shaped by the CST Cloud Computing Regulatory Framework, NCA controls and PDPL, including which data must stay in the Kingdom.

  • Civil Defense and building code

Fire protection, egress and materials are designed to the Saudi Building Code and prepared for Civil Defense approval.

  • Utility connection

We coordinate power requirements with the Saudi Electricity Company and your landlord early, because grid connection often sets the programme.

  • Build, colocate or cloud

In-Kingdom colocation and cloud regions are compared with building your own, with the cost and compliance trade-offs set out honestly.

  • Local delivery

Engineers in Riyadh, supply chains planned around regional lead times, and installation windows that respect live operations.

Why GoAgile

Why organisations trust GoAgile with their data centre

A data centre is a decade-long commitment. These are the reasons clients choose a single accountable team.

One accountable contractor

Design, supply, installation, commissioning and handover under one contract, with one team answerable for the result.

Specified to your requirement

We choose equipment to meet your availability target and budget, not to move a particular brand.

Tested, not assumed

Failover and load tests before go-live, witnessed by your team, with results recorded.

Documentation that outlasts staff

As-built drawings, cable records and operations manuals that a new engineer can use on day one.

We can run it too

Managed IT and 24/7 NOC services mean the people who built it can operate it, and designs are built to be operated.

Local and regional

Riyadh-based engineers with experience of Saudi approvals, supply lead times and operating conditions.

Questions answered

Data Centre Design & Implementation FAQs

What does data centre design and implementation include?

It covers assessment and design, power and backup power, cooling and airflow, racks and containment, structured cabling, fire detection and suppression, physical security and monitoring, then installation, testing, commissioning and handover. We can deliver all of it as one project or take specific workstreams.

How much does it cost to build a data centre or server room in Saudi Arabia?

Cost depends mainly on capacity in kilowatts, the redundancy level, the fit-out standard and the site. It ranges from a modest server-room fit-out to a multi-million-riyal facility. We provide a costed design range after a short assessment so you can decide before committing to detailed design.

How long does it take to build a data centre?

A server-room fit-out often takes weeks to a few months. A full facility takes longer, driven by equipment lead times for UPS, generators and cooling, approvals and construction. We give a programme with the critical path after the survey.

What is the difference between Tier II, Tier III and Tier IV?

Tier II adds redundant components to a single path. Tier III is concurrently maintainable, so any component can be taken out for maintenance without shutting down IT. Tier IV is fault tolerant, with independent active paths that survive a single failure. Each step adds cost and complexity, so the target should follow the business impact.

Do you design to TIA-942?

We design to ANSI/TIA-942 and Uptime Institute tier concepts, together with ASHRAE thermal guidelines. Formal certification against a tier or rating is a separate assessment by the relevant body, which we can prepare you for.

Should we build, use colocation or move to the cloud?

It depends on workload, data classification, cost over ten years and regulatory limits. Latency-sensitive, regulated or steady workloads often suit on-premises or colocation, while variable workloads suit cloud. We compare the options with real figures and often recommend a mix.

Can you upgrade or migrate a live data centre without downtime?

Usually yes, with careful staging. We survey the live environment, plan moves in agreed windows, run old and new in parallel where needed and keep a tested rollback for each step.

What fire suppression do data centres use?

Most combine early-warning aspirating smoke detection with a clean-agent gas system, because gas protects equipment without water damage. Pre-action sprinklers or water mist are alternatives. The choice depends on the risk, the room and Saudi Civil Defense requirements.

Do you provide data centre services across Saudi Arabia and the GCC?

Yes. We are headquartered in Riyadh and deliver projects across the Kingdom and the GCC, with engineers on site during installation and commissioning.
