Identity and access management in Saudi Arabia: the right people, the right systems, nothing more

Stolen credentials are the most common way in. We design and run identity controls, from single sign-on and MFA to privileged access and access reviews, so access is granted, used and removed under control.

  • SSO and MFA across cloud and on-premises systems
  • Privileged accounts vaulted, monitored and time-limited
  • Joiner, mover and leaver processes that actually run

01Overview

What is identity and access management?

Identity and access management (IAM) is the set of policies and technologies that make sure the right people and systems have the right access to the right resources at the right time. It covers how identities are created, authenticated, authorised, reviewed and removed, and it is the first line of defence in a zero trust model.

Privileged access management (PAM) is the part that protects administrator and service accounts, which give attackers the most power if stolen. Identity governance adds the processes: who approves access, who reviews it and what happens when people change roles or leave.

We treat identity as a programme rather than a product: assess, design, deploy and operate.

Authentication
SSO, MFA, passwordless, conditional access
Privileged access

Governance
Joiner-mover-leaver, access reviews, certification

02What we do

Six identity services

Start where risk is highest, usually MFA and privileged accounts.

One login, strongly verified

Single sign-on and multi-factor authentication across cloud, on-premises and remote access.

  • SSO for SaaS and internal apps
  • Phishing-resistant MFA options
  • Conditional access policies
  • Passwordless roadmap

What you receive

Fewer passwords, stronger sign-in.

03How we work

A phased identity programme

Quick wins first, then the foundations.

  1. Assess

    Weeks 1 to 3

Inventory identities, privileged accounts, applications and current controls.

  2. Quick wins

    Weeks 3 to 6

MFA for administrators and remote access, and clean-up of dormant accounts.

  3. Design

    Weeks 6 to 8

Target identity architecture, roles and policies.

  4. Deploy

    Months 2 to 6

SSO, PAM and governance rolled out application by application.

  5. Operate

    Ongoing

    Reviews, monitoring and continuous improvement.

06Saudi Arabia and the GCC

Identity expectations in the Kingdom

Access control is among the most audited areas.

  • NCA

    NCA ECC identity and access

The ECC defines identity and access management controls, including MFA for remote and privileged access and periodic review.

  • SAMA

    SAMA access control

Financial entities need strong authentication, privileged access control and periodic access reviews.

  • Identity

    Nafath and national identity

Public-facing services often integrate with national identity. We design the integration securely.

Tier-1 Saudi bankPrivileged access management

Privileged access and MFA for a bank

Shared administrator accounts and weak remote access were audit findings.

  • Deployed a privileged access vault with session recording
  • Rolled out multi-factor authentication
  • Introduced joiner, mover, leaver workflows

Result: Audit findings closed and administrator activity became traceable.

Tier-1 Saudi bankRed team exercise

A threat-led red team exercise for a bank

The bank needed evidence that its people, processes and detection would hold up against a realistic attacker, in line with SAMA expectations.

  • Agreed rules of engagement and a threat scenario with the CISO
  • Ran a controlled exercise against production systems
  • Ran a purple team workshop so defenders could see every step

Result: Detection gaps were fixed, playbooks were updated and the board received a plain-language report.

National energy operatorOT security assessment

OT assessment and segmentation for an energy operator

Plant networks had grown without a clear map, and remote access for vendors was a concern.

  • Passive discovery of OT assets without touching production
  • Purdue-model segmentation design and industrial firewall rules
  • Secure remote access for vendors with session recording

Result: A mapped, segmented network with a prioritised remediation plan the plant team could schedule.

10Questions answered

Identity and Access Management FAQs

What is the difference between IAM and PAM?

IAM manages access for all users, while PAM focuses on powerful accounts such as administrators and service accounts, adding vaulting, session recording and just-in-time access.

Is MFA required in Saudi Arabia?

The NCA ECC expects multi-factor authentication for remote access and for privileged accounts, and SAMA expects strong authentication for financial entities. We map to your specific obligations.

What is conditional access?

Policies that allow, block or challenge sign-ins depending on user, device health, location and risk, rather than treating every login the same.

Can you integrate with Nafath?

Yes, where public-facing services must support national identity, we design and secure the integration with your application.

How do access reviews work?

Managers or owners periodically confirm that each person's access is still needed, and removals are processed and recorded.

Which IAM platform should we choose?

It depends on your estate. Organisations on Microsoft 365 often use Entra ID, while others use Okta or open-source options such as Keycloak. We compare against your requirements.

How long does a PAM project take?

A first phase vaulting the most critical accounts can be live in a few weeks, with wider rollout over months.
